Saturday, May 4Playing God? Playing is for children.

A scavenging nomad digs through the rubble of what was once a home. Under his boot, he feels some give. Digging a bit with grimy hands, he pulls a mud-soaked rag from the debris. It is shaped vaguely like a person, with a single black beady eye staring.

The nomad takes it to his shelter, and dries it; cleans the bear as best he can. He finds new stuffing; sews it back into shape with a bent needle and thread pulled from rags. He pulls a button off an old coat and gives the bear a new eye.

The nomad smiles to see his work. Once, long ago, this was someones best friend. With a little care, and in spite of the scars, the damage, the trauma and abuse…

…it soon will be again.
